Tether TRC20 (USDT) in 2026: What It Is and How to Use It
USDT TRC20 is the most popular way to hold and move dollars in crypto. People use it to keep savings in dollars, settle with a partner abroad, or quickly move money between wallets and exchangers.
This guide explains what Tether TRC20 is in 2026, how it compares with other networks, where to buy USDT TRC20 for rubles, how to store it, what a transfer costs, and which risks (freezes, address poisoning, "dirty" coins) you should keep in mind.

Quick answer: what USDT TRC20 is
- USDT is Tether's stablecoin, pegged to the US dollar: 1 USDT ≈ $1;
- TRC20 is the token standard of the TRON blockchain. USDT TRC20 is the same Tether dollar, just issued on TRON;
- it's the largest USDT network: as of 9 October 2026, $92.45B, or about 50.2% of all USDT, is issued on TRON;
- a transfer takes seconds, but you pay for it in energy or TRX: about 6.5 TRX to an address that already holds USDT and about 13 TRX to an empty one;
- the easiest way to buy USDT TRC20 for rubles is an exchanger: the AntiSwap catalog lists 44 honest and neutral exchangers selling it for Sber rubles.

What Tether TRC20 is in plain words
Tether (USDT) is the largest stablecoin. According to DefiLlama, about $184.1–184.2B USDT was in circulation as of 9 October 2026. All stablecoins together come to roughly $312B, so USDT holds about 59% of the market.
USDT exists on several blockchains at once. It's the same coin, but it "lives" on different networks, and you can only move it within its own network. The split as of 9 October 2026:
- TRON (TRC20): $92.45B, about 50.2%;
- Ethereum (ERC20): $73.9B, about 40.1%;
- BNB Smart Chain (BEP20): $9.2B, about 5%;
- Solana: $2.9B, about 1.6%.
TRON produces a new block every 3 seconds. According to Tronscan, the network handles 10–11.6M transactions a day: on 2 October 2026 there were 11.58M, including 2.37M USDT transfers. More about the network itself in "What is TRON (TRX)".
USDT stays near one dollar thanks to the issuer's reserves. According to The Block, Tether's net profit for 2025 exceeded $10B, and its reserves stood at $193B, including $122B in US Treasuries.

Pros and cons of USDT TRC20
Pros:
- Popularity. TRC20 is the most widely used USDT network, and almost every exchanger accepts it. The AntiSwap catalog lists 70 honest and neutral exchangers buying USDT TRC20 for Sber rubles, more than on any other network.
- Speed. A new block every 3 seconds means transfers confirm quickly.
- A predictable fee. It doesn't depend on the amount: sending $10 costs the same as sending $10,000.
- Convenient wallets. USDT TRC20 is supported by TronLink, Trust Wallet and, since 2026, MetaMask.
Cons:
- You need TRX or energy. Without them you can't send USDT, even with a balance.
- Higher fees than BEP20. About $2.15 per transfer to a USDT holder and about $4.30 to an empty address when burning TRX.
- Freezes. Tether can block USDT on any address, and TRON sees the most such freezes.
- Scammers. Because the network is so popular, address poisoning is widespread.
If low fees or compatibility with other services matter more to you, look at other networks: Tether BEP20 and Tether ERC20. All three are compared in "USDT on TRC20, ERC20 and BEP20: Differences and Which Network to Choose".
Where to buy USDT TRC20 for rubles
There are three main routes: an exchanger, P2P on an exchange, and the exchange itself. For an individual the simplest is an exchanger: you pay the order from your own card, and USDT arrives in your wallet.

Exchanger. As of 9 October 2026, the AntiSwap catalog lists 44 honest and neutral exchangers selling USDT TRC20 for Sber rubles and 42 for T-Bank rubles. It's convenient to choose star ★ exchangers with an insurance deposit: they don't freeze funds without a valid reason and return them if they can't complete the exchange.
P2P on an exchange. You send rubles to a stranger. The main risk is a card block under Law 161-FZ if the money turns out to be linked to fraud. According to Kommersant, the Bank of Russia's money-mule database held 1.2 million people in September 2025.
Exchange. Fine for trading, but keeping savings there is risky: the exchange may limit withdrawals or freeze the account. More in "Why you shouldn't keep USDT on an exchange".

Keep the law in mind. Since 1 September 2026, crypto in Russia has been regulated by Law 282-FZ, and from 1 July 2027 residents may trade crypto only through licensed intermediaries. The Bank of Russia added the first of them to its register on 6 October 2026: VTB, T-Invest Lab, Zefir and Sistema-Crypto. Officials named USDT among the coins available to retail investors, although on 9 June 2026 the Finance Ministry called USDT "potentially risky". Profit from selling crypto is taxed at 13–15% (Law 418-FZ).

How to store USDT TRC20
There are two kinds of wallets. In a non-custodial wallet only you hold the keys, and no one else can move your coins. In a custodial wallet the service holds the keys: it's convenient, but the service can restrict withdrawals. We explained what a private key is and why you must never share it in "Private key: what it is and why you need it".
- TronLink is the official TRON wallet. It lets you stake TRX for energy and pay fees via GasFree.
- Trust Wallet is a multi-network wallet, handy for holding USDT on TRC20, ERC20 and BEP20 at once.
- MetaMask has supported TRON, including USDT TRC20, since 15 January 2026.
- Telegram Wallet is custodial. A USDT TRC20 withdrawal cost 3.5 USDT, according to 2025 data.
Large amounts are safer in a non-custodial wallet, with the seed phrase written on paper and kept offline.
Fees and energy: what a transfer costs
TRON has no fixed fee. Every transaction uses bandwidth and energy. Each account gets 600 units of bandwidth free per day. A USDT transfer, however, is a smart contract call, and it needs energy. If there's none, the network burns TRX.
On 29 August 2025 the energy price was cut from 210 to 100 sun, halving the cost of a USDT transfer. According to TRON documentation, it now costs:
- about 64–65 thousand energy, or ≈6.4–6.5 TRX (≈$2.15), to an address that already holds USDT;
- about 130 thousand energy, or ≈13 TRX (≈$4.30), to an address that has never held USDT.
Dollar figures use the TRX price of $0.3326 on 9 October 2026 (CoinGecko).

How to pay less:
- Renting energy is usually cheaper than burning TRX. But a genuine service never asks you to sign an approve for your tokens or enter your seed phrase.
- GasFree in TronLink: since 9 May 2026 the fee is 1.5 USDT per transfer and is taken in USDT, so no TRX is needed.
- Staking TRX gives free energy every day, but it suits people who hold a lot of TRX.
If you don't have enough energy and TRX, the transaction fails and the resources already spent aren't refunded. Check your TRX balance before sending.
Risks: freezes, address poisoning and "dirty" coins

- Tether freezes. The issuer can block USDT on any address. According to Decrypt, Tether has frozen more than $4.4B in total and works with over 340 agencies in 65 countries. AMLBot counts $3.29B USDT frozen on 7,268 addresses in 2023–2025, of which $1.75B was on TRON. On 6 March 2025 Tether froze about $27M in Garantex wallets. We covered how this works in "What the USDT and USDC blacklist is". You can check an address with Blacklist Check.
- Address poisoning. Scammers send tiny amounts from addresses that look like your counterparties' so you copy the fake one from your history. According to TRM Labs, these attacks are mass-scale on TRON. Copy addresses from a trusted source and check them in full.
- "Dirty" coins. If USDT previously passed through fraudulent addresses, it may be frozen once it reaches you, and an exchanger may refuse the swap. What to do about it is in "Dirty crypto: what it is, how to check and what to do", and why exchangers check coins is in "AML and KYC: what's the difference".
- Wrong network. If the exchanger accepts USDT TRC20 and you send USDT on another network, you may lose the money. Always match the network in the order and in your wallet.
- A scam exchanger. Check the exchanger's status, reviews and deposit on AntiSwap before swapping.
